Bad Breath

Bad Breath

Do you suffer from bad breath (halitosis), or has someone commented on your breath? Halitosis, the medical name for bad breath, is caused by sulphur producing bacteria in the mouth.

The most common causes of bad breath include smoking, dehydration, food, poor oral hygiene, health problems, dental decay, and gum disease.

Good oral hygiene such as brushing the teeth and tongue at least twice a day, flossing, and using an antibacterial mouthwash daily are important ways to combat halitosis.

Symptoms can include:

  • White coating on the tongue
  • Dry mouth
  • Plaque build-up
  • Constant sour, bitter metallic taste
  • Excessive mucous
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Morning bad breath and a burning tongue
  • Thick saliva and a need to constantly clear your throat

At Fremantle Dental Care our dentists are specifically trained in the diagnosis of periodontal diseases, which halitosis falls under.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed you can request an appointment with one of our dentists.
