Wisdom Teeth Removal and Tooth Extractions

Tooth Extractions

Having a tooth out can be a stressful, upsetting procedure. We understand these worries and we specialize in providing **pain-free extraction procedures.

We can discuss tooth replacement options with you prior to your extraction, so that you do not have to suffer the embarrassment of having a gap, or missing teeth. We carry out both simple and surgical extractions and take referrals from other practices. We keep our fees as low as possible and work with all major health care funds, as well as government and private organisations to ensure you receive the maximum benefit available to you.

Wisdom teeth removal

Wisdom teeth are the third molars at the back of the mouth that generally erupt between the ages of 17-25.

Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but some people are missing one or more. Wisdom teeth can cause problems if there is not enough room in the mouth for them to erupt and because they are positioned so far back in the mouth that they are difficult to clean. Because of this, they often cause tooth decay, gum infections and pain, as well as affecting the health of the other teeth. At your 6 monthly dental check ups, we will screen for any problems with your wisdom teeth and can take x-rays to check the position of these teeth if we feel there may be a problem. If we identify any problems, we can offer wisdom tooth removal under local anaesthetic (injection alone), or sedation in our practice.

Impacted wisdom teeth treatment

At Fremantle Dental Care, we can help relieve the pain and treat impacted wisdom teeth. We often start with a special jaw scan (OPG) to assess whether your wisdom teeth need to be removed or not. Dr Koen is highly experienced in this area and performs wisdom teeth removal regularly in the comfort and safety of our practice. This is usually done using Sleep Dentistry (conscious IV sedation), whereby patients will be completely unaware of the procedure. Patients are then safely discharged home the same morning without the inconvenience of a hospital stay. We also ensure that your care extends beyond the procedure itself, as all cases are reviewed later to ensure your recovery is progressing as expected. However, for our more advanced cases we refer patients to an oral surgeon.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risk. Before proceedings, you should seek a second opinion from an approximately qualified health practitioner.
